Lowitja Institute's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander grants are designed to contribute to improvements in the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people by commissioning research that is high impact and innovative.
Lowitja Institute Scholarships aim to support the next generation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and wellbeing researchers. Our scholarships contribute to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leadership of health research by providing opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to develop skills in areas relevant to meaningful and impactful health and wellbeing research.
Over the course of our scholarships program, Lowitja Institute has facilitated opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people at all stages within the health research workforce and we have funded more than 160 students. These talented scholars have undertaken certificates, diplomas, cadetships and higher degrees by research.
Lowitja Institute will award scholarship funding to only Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students for this scholarship round. In 2025, we have offered two scholarship types including Graduate Certificates and Higher Degree by Research Top-Up Scholarships.
Certificate IV and Graduate Certificate Scholarships
The objective of the Certificate IV and Graduate Certificate Scholarships is to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who are wanting to develop their skills and knowledge within the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health research workforce with entry-level study. The scholarship awards funds towards course fees and is paid directly to the enrolling institution.
Higher Degree by Research Top-Up Scholarship
